Journey to the North

The two walked beside each other for some time. It was hard to make out the entrance to the catacombs from where they came. It was covered with vegitation and blended seemlessly along the hillside.

Suddenly, they heard something moving. Thorton drew his mace and looked around in a panic. Lewie stood still and began to concentrate. A growl came from out of some nearby bushes followed by a great red beast with spikes comming from his back. Thorton ran at the creature with his mace and began to swing at it.

The wind began to pick up and rings of light began to appear around Lewie. His chanting became louder as the wind continued to get stronger. Suddenly a great sound of thunder was heard as a bolt of lightning came down and struck at the beast. A screaching sound pierced through the air as the beast went down.

Thorton leaned over to take a closer look at what was left. It still had life within it and violently lept at him and cut his face with it's claws. "Argh!", he grunted in return. He took his mace and gave a good harty pound into the beasts head. It crunched through the skull and the beast was no longer animate.

Lewie observed Thorton and tossed him a vial of red potion. Thorton began rubbing it over the wound. It was hard to tell the difference between the potion and the blood comming from the wound. In no time at all - the wound had healed to the point where it appeared to be a small scar.

"This vial beast... what is it?", asked Thorton.

Lewie crouched down and began poking at it with a twig. After a long period of silence, he looked up and answered, "Honestly, I do not know. I have never heard of such an animal described to me in any of my studies."
